Globe Claims Record-breaking Swap-out of Cell Sites in Cebu in Just 24 Hours

Globe Telecom has announced it completed the first phase of its network modernization in Cebu giving the province’s customers and the Central Visayas region a top-shaped service in telecommunications.

Not only that. Globe has further said it achieved the swapping-out of its cell sites in a record time–24 hours. The swap-out involved the changing of six network clusters that is expected to “reduce drop call rates as well as better call set-up and quality in the entire province and the Central Visayas region“.

Though Globe did not mention when the swap-out actually happened due to security reasons, Yoly Crisanto, Head at Globe’s Corporate Communications Office said it took place second week of July.

The province is also readied by Globe for 4G HSPA+ (Evolved High-Speed Packet Access) technology and “is also ready to upgrade to 4G LTE (Long-Term Evolution) technology“.

Globe has partnered with foreign partners–Alcatel-Lucent and Huawei in implementing the swap-out in Cebu in record time. Several teams worked simultaneously on changing the cell sites just to complete the total project in 24 hours.

The program is part of Globe’s massive $700-million modernization program across the Philippines. Also this month, Globe is rolling out the remaining phases of the program in Southern Philippines, particularly in the Davao region, Zamboanga provinces and key areas of Mindanao, parts of Northern and Southern Luzon, as well as in the cities of Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela in the National Capital Region.
