Twitter could be sued for its users’ unlawful tweets

In the Philippines, according to a Cyber Law expert, The Electronic Commerce Law (RA 8792), states that a service provider is not liable as long as it “does not have actual knowledge, or is not aware of the facts and circumstances” from which unlawful material is published, distributed or disseminated. However, should Twitter refuse to pull out the defamatory tweets then it could be equally liable. This provision of the law can also be applied to Facebook and other online sites which published a defamatory statement.
